Mune Forms

Mune Varieties and Terminology

The Mune is the back edge of the blade. Consideration of its form (cross-section) is an important step in the kantei process. Some generalised representations of the types which may be encountered are shown below. Alternative names for the mune types are shown in brackets. Note that the actual height of some forms of the mune may vary independently of type and may be termed takashi (high) or hikushi (low).
